Now that the elections are wrapped up, Congress will be coming together to set the agenda for their upcoming lame-duck session. The American Soybean Association wants the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement to be a top priority during the session. The ASA wants the agreement passed so that American farmers and the soybean industry can better take part in the global economy. ASA President Richard Wilkins, a farmer from Greenwood, Delaware, says, “TPP is vital to farmers across the country, as well as the processors and exporters that take U.S. soybeans to markets around the world. 95 percent of consumers around the world live outside the U.S. borders, so passing TPP will open up international markets and boost farm exports by $4.4 billion per year.” Wilkins added that farmers look forward to potentially expanding soybean exports in terms of oil and feed, saying TPP has the power to create jobs at home and boost the farm economy.
