On Thursday morning, the Senate Agriculture Committee voted to approve the nomination of Former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue to be U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.
Renewable Fuels Association President and CEO Bob Dinneen had the following statement:
“We congratulate Sonny Perdue on receiving approval by the Senate Agriculture Committee to be the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Governor Perdue is certainly well qualified and well versed in agriculture issues, growing up on a farm and earning a doctorate in veterinary medicine. If confirmed, he will only be the third USDA Secretary to have been a farmer. As a result, Governor Perdue appreciates the challenge facing farmers today, knows that building demand will be essential to rural economic stability, and certainly understands the importance of value-added markets like ethanol.
“Agriculture is the lifeblood of our industry, helping to produce the cleanest, lowest cost and highest source of octane fuel on the planet. We look forward to Governor Perdue receiving full Senate approval and will work with him and others in the administration to continue the growth and evolution of the U.S. biofuels industry.”
