As much as we like our fruits and vegetables and other wild plants – we also need bees and other pollinating friends to keep them around!
According to the Natural Resources Defense Council, cross-pollination from bees and other pollinators assist at least 30 percent of the world’s crops and 90 percent of wild plants. That includes berries, apples, onion, carrots, avocados, and many other foods. So, it’s up to us to plant some of these flowers and herbs this spring to not only add beauty to our homes but attract our buzzing friends! These might even be some plants you may not have even considered. Such as Borage.
Known as the “starflower” and the “bee bush,” bees love this medicinal herb! Rosemary… honeybees love this fragrant beauty and its beautiful purple flowers. Catnip – this attracts bees and butterflies. Sunflowers, Echinacea, Lilacs, and Hyacinth are also a win for the bees.
