California Egg Production

Egg production
California’s egg production during July totaled 292 million, up 4 million from June’s production and up 19 million from July 2015. The all layers during the month totaled 12.0 million, down 3 percent from last month, but up from July 2015. Eggs per 100 layers during the month were 2,438, compared to 2,330 a month earlier, and 2,286 in July 2015.

U.S. July Egg Production

United States egg production totaled 8.50 billion during July 2016, up 9 percent from last year. Production included 7.36 billion table eggs, and 1.15 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.05 billion were broiler-type and 97 million were egg-type. The total number of layers during July 2016 averaged 358 million, up 7 percent from last year. July egg production per 100 layers was 2,378 eggs, up 2 percent from July 2015.

All layers in the United States on August 1, 2016 totaled 357 million, up 7 percent from last year. The 357 million layers consisted of 299 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 54.2 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.82 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on August 1, 2016, averaged 77.2 eggs per 100 layers, up 3 percent from August 1, 2015.

U.S. Broiler-Type Chicks Hatched

Broiler-type chicks hatched during July 2016 totaled 810 million, up 1 percent from July 2015. Eggs in incubators totaled 650 million on August 1, 2016, up slightly from a year ago.

Leading breeders placed REVIEW million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during July 2016, REVIEW from July 2015.

U.S. Egg-Type Chicks Hatched

Egg-type chicks hatched during July 2016 totaled 42.9 million, up slightly from July 2015. Eggs in incubators totaled 38.2 million on August 1, 2016, down 14 percent from a year ago.

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled REVIEW thousand during July 2016, REVIEW from July 2015.

U.S. Turkey Hatchery Production

Turkey eggs in incubators on August 1, 2016, in the United States totaled 28.9 million, up 7 percent from August 1, 2015. Eggs in incubators were down 3 percent from the July 1, 2016 total of 29.9 million eggs.

Turkey poults hatched during July 2016, in the United States totaled 24.8 million, up 8 percent from July 2015. Poults hatched were down 1 percent from the June 2016 total of 25.0 million poults.

The 24.4 million net poults placed during July 2016 in the United States were up 7 percent from the number placed during the same month a year earlier. Net placements were up slightly from the June 2016 total of 24.3 million.

U.S. Poultry and Egg Prices

The June market egg price, at $0.23 per dozen, decreased 1.1 cents from May and is 169.0 cents below June 2015. The June broiler price, at 58.0 cents per pound, is up 2.0 cent from May and 4.0 cents below a year earlier. The June turkey price at 86.5 cents per pound is up 3.4 cents from May and up 5.3 cents from June 2015.
