Continuing our series of news features gathered at the recent Produce Marketing Association “PMA Fresh Summit 2014” in Anaheim California, long-time watermelon promoter Gordon Hunt discusses the importance of the “PMA Fresh Summit” in the overall scheme of things. He also discusses some of the new watermelon varieties and other by-products coming into play at the consumer level, and some of the issues facing watermelon growers worldwide these days. The National Watermelon Promotion Board is headquartered in Orlando, Florida. Florida is a major state for watermelon production, as are other deep southeast states and California as well. Southeast region watermelon growers can mark their calendars, next year’s “PMA Fresh Summit” is scheduled to be held in Atlanta, Georgia October 23-25, 2015.
