Cathy Isom lets you know why you’ll want to lace up those hiking shoes and plot an outdoor adventure today. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
National Take a Hike Day
Today you really can go tell someone to go Take a Hike, because it’s “National Take a Hike Day.” which is observed annually on November 17th.
With over 60,000 miles of trails across the 50 states, there is no lack of opportunity to get out there and explore nature. Imagine all of the places you could discover which including countryside, agricultural land, mountains, forests, and oceanside.
Depending on where you go, you could find yourself with some magnificent 360-degree views. You can take it all in while becoming one with mother earth.
Hiking can also help you burn between 400-550 calories per hour. That’s a great way to way to get a head start on all those ‘other’ holiday temptations next week, like that second and third helping of turkey and all of the trimmings.
Contact your local Forest Service or National Park Service for more information on the trails nearest you. Or, check out all trails.com on the web.
