national chili dog dayIf you like chili and hot dogs, Cathy Isom tells us about a national day to celebrate one of America’s favorite foods. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.

National Chili Dog Day

Every year on the last Thursday of July, hot dog lovers across the United States celebrate National Chili Dog Day by topping off their hot dogs with some delicious chili. Also known as chili con carne or a Coney dog.Chili dogs often have additional toppings such as onions, cheese, jalapeños and hot sauce. There’s probably a few dozen ways to add a little heat, or a lot, too hot dogs or sausages.

National Chili Dog day is one of the last unofficial holidays to celebrate the beloved hot dog, which has actually been celebrated all month.

There is really no wrong way to eat a hot dog or chili dog, just use your hands to lift, eat, and repeat. Remember two other rules as well…no utensils & lick those fingers! Chili dogs are meant to be eaten with your hands!

Use the hashtag: #NationalChiliDogDay to post to social media and encourage others to join in the yummy, messy, fun.
