A program that started in Chico may be helping beekeepers reduce winter bee losses.
Honey bee tech transfer teams were tested in Northern California several years ago. The purpose of these teams is to give beekeepers the best information to manage varroa mites. University of Maryland Assistant Professor Dennis vanEngelsdorp says the deadly mites have adapted so much over the years, but the standard for managing them has not. The tech transfer teams have been operating nationwide for the last four years.
