Yesterday the NFL and National Dairy Council’s Fuel Up to Play 60 program stopped by Alicia Reyes Elementary School in Merced. The San Francisco 49ers’ mascot Sourdough Sam and District 6 Dairy Princess Alternative, Joya Lemos, even made an appearance.

School officials, administrators and PTA members in attendance learned about how the Merced City School District successfully implemented a breakfast programs — serving an average of 300 breakfasts a day — and the significant impact the program is having on the students and schools.

The Fuel Up to Play 60 program in partnership with the NFL, National Dairy Council and the California Milk Advisory Board, seeks to spread awareness about school funding for breakfast programs that benefit California students. The program also encourages students to choose good-for-you foods and to get active for at least 60 minutes every day. The first step in a child’s path to success is starting each day with a healthy breakfast at school!
