The Fresno Grizzlies Farm Grown program awarded $500 in Farm Grown Scholarships to participants in The Big Fresno Fair.
Scholarships were given to:
John Woodcock, $250 award, Sierra FFA member
John is a 19-year-old Sophomore at Fresno State. He graduated from Sierra High School in 2012. He is majoring in animal science with an emphasis in meat technology. John has raised a market steer every year (including this year) since he was 9, and he won Supreme Champion at this year’s Big Fresno Fair.
Samantha Hogan, $100 award, Clovis FFA member
Samantha is a 16-year-old Junior at Clovis East High School. She raised a barrow, cross-breed swine and is also a varsity swimmer and captain of the water polo team.
Taylor Collins, $75 award, Sierra 4-H member
Taylor is a 14-year- old, 9th grader at Clovis North. This is her fifth year in 4-H and she’s a Silver Star recipient. At The Big Fresno Fair, she had Supreme Champion Replacement Doe, Supreme Champion LaMancha Senior Doe, Reserve Supreme Champion Junior Doe, Champion Intermediate Doe, Champion Dam/Daughter, and Champion Best of Three.
Clayton Collins, $75 award, Sierra 4-H member
Clayton is a 10 –year-old 5th grader. This is his first year in 4-H. He raised a turkey and goats. He showed a market whether named Dodo and won Junior Showmanship and Reserve Supreme Dairy Market Whether. He also won a belt buckle for Champion Rate of Gain. He was the breeder of his market goat.
