Ahead of critical fourth NAFTA round, Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall, Senator Max Baucus, Farmers for Free Trade Board President Sara Lilygren, and Kansas Farm Bureau President Rich Felts to discuss efforts to strengthen grassroots support for trade & NAFTA’s importance to farmers and ranchers
American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall joined Senators Max Baucus and Richard Lugar, Co-chairs of Farmers for Free Trade, Farmers for Free Trade Board President Sara Lilygren, and Kansas Farm Bureau President Rich Felts to discuss the Farm Bureau’s new partnership with Farmers for Free Trade, the importance of safeguarding agricultural market access in NAFTA negotiations, and strengthening grassroots support for trade. This comes on the eve of the fourth round of NAFTA negotiations.
Farmers for Free Trade is a recently launched bipartisan campaign chaired by former Senators Max Baucus and Richard Lugar that is focused on rebuilding local support for trade in states across the country. The new effort comes at a time when trade is under fire despite the fact that U.S. farmers export half of all major commodities, contributing to a $20 billion ag trade surplus this year and supporting millions of rural jobs.
