Many would think that California is a leader in drought research but that isn’t the case. Kearney Agriculture Research and Extension Center Director Jeff Dahlberg says until recently, drought hasn’t been a focus for research in the state.

That’s why new drought projects are starting around the California, including the project the Kearney research center is part of that is looking at drought tolerance genes in sorgham. Dahlberg says California really is the best place for drought research to take place for many of the reasons the state’s agriculture community already knows.
