In todays program, Cathy Isom has a few great tips about container gardening for beginners. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Growing herbs are perfect for the beginning gardener. Plant them in big containers with some vegetables on your porch or balcony, or keep a few plants on your kitchen windowsill.
Containers are an excellent choice for herbs because if the weather gets too cold, you can bring them inside and keep enjoying them even as the rest of your garden freezes over. Containers are also ideal for those gardening in tight spaces.
Herbs are an excellent way to elevate your cooking. Nothing beats the pungent flavor of fresh-cut herbs like basil, oregano, or sage. An herb garden will save you money at the grocery store, too. Plus, you won’t have to worry about your herbs spoiling in the fridge. Even if you can’t use up all your fresh herbs, you can also use a dehydrator to dry them for later use.
Plant similar herbs together, but don’t stuff them too close together. And never overwater.
