California was well represented on a hearing about cover crops and supporting programs. A House Agriculture Committee hearing this week focused on soil health and among the testifying was California Farm Bureau Federation First Vice President and Grower Shannon Douglass. California Congressman and Subcommittee Ranking Member Doug LaMalfa asked Douglass questions about the challenges producers have with soil health support programs. Douglass said aside from the rigorous application and lengthy effort to apply for support, a new concern is coming with regards to the Food Safety Modernization Act.
