Axios® 20 SC Fungicide Offers Flexible Disease Control for Almond Growers

As California almond growers navigate tight spray windows during the growing season, having flexible and easy-to-use fungicide options can help keep disease management programs on track. Cassie Rieser, Technical Sales Support Manager with UPL, says Axios® 20 SC fungicide was designed with that flexibility in mind.

One of the key advantages of Axios 20 SC is its simple formulation. Rieser explained that Axios 20 SC contains a single active ingredient, Kinoprol®, allowing it to be used more flexibly in spray programs. Because it is not a premix product, growers can combine it with other active ingredients and easily incorporate it into different stages of the season.

“This really allows growers to use Axios 20 SC throughout the season,” Rieser said. The product can be applied for bloom-time disease management or used to bridge the gap between early-season disease control and summer disease pressure. With a 14-day pre-harvest interval, Axios 20 SC can also fit within tight harvest timelines.

Ease of use also extends to worker safety and operational flexibility. Axios 20 SC is classified as an EPA reduced-risk pesticide and carries a caution signal word, indicating lower toxicity compared to products labeled with warning or danger signals. The fungicide also has a 24-hour re-entry interval, allowing crews to return to the field relatively quickly following application.

In almonds, Axios 20 SC is labeled for several important diseases including brown rot, shothole, anthracnose, scab, and leaf spot, with additional coverage for botrytis and hull rot through a supplemental label. Rieser noted that this broad disease spectrum allows growers to manage multiple threats within a single program.

Axios 20 SC also introduces a new FRAC Group 52 mode of action, which can help growers rotate chemistries and reduce resistance pressure on commonly used fungicide groups.
