Everett Griner talks about the trade problems with China, and the farmers concerns about metal imports, in today’s Agri View. Everett explains some of the different reasons for concern for farmers. The recent increase of tariffs on steel and aluminum has a lot of farmers shook up.
There is more than one reason for their concern. You see, the first reason is, China is the number one steel exporter to the United States. They could very well do the same thing to us. If they don’t, the cost of farm equipment and machinery will very well determine how much the prices go up. But, China is the number one importer of United States farm goods. This could cause China to look to other sources for things like cotton, soybeans, and a dozen other farm products. And even if they don’t rebel at the higher prices on steel and aluminum. Cutting back on meat imports could be a disaster for livestock farmers in America.
We will know how it all plays out by the end of this summer. They is plenty to worry about.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
