Everett Griner talks about America, still number one in food prices, in today’s Agri View.
Food Prices
We are still the best fed nation in the world, at the best price. One reason we spend less is we grow our own. But consider some of the reasons. We farm more land. We export more and import less. American imports about fifteen percent of the food consumed. And, most of that is fruits and vegetables. Actually, half of the fresh fruit. Perhaps twenty percent of the vegetables and eighty percent of the seafood. It is regarded as food security. People simply expect the supermarkets to be well stocked. Here is how USDA shows it. We spend less than seven percent annual income on food. Russia appends about twenty-eight percent. China, once the highest in the world, currently about thirty percent. Now in some countries it runs about as high as fifty percent. These are the latest figures. It will not remain that way. You can look for those numbers to rise all over the world.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
