Everett Griner talks about guidelines to save food and money in today’s Agri View.
Money Saving Guidelines
The Food and Drug Administration has made public another set of guidelines to help consumers reduce the volume of food that is unnecessarily discarded. In other words, reduce waste. It is not a regulation. It merely explains the “Use By” and “Best By” dates on a package from the distributor. Those dates don’t mean throw it away if it is not “used by” then. It tells you the best time to use it. For instance eggs can stay usable for weeks if kept in refrigerated. Apples in the refrigerator will remain edible for up to ten weeks. One thing to be cautious about is the “Expiration Date”. If it has a defined expiration date, do not use it after that date. It could be hazardous to your health. Adherence to these dates will make your food taste better. Save you money, and reduce food waste. Well, now you know.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner
