Imported Insects and Diseases

My goodness, how many citrus diseases are there? I get a monthly copy of Florida’s most widely circulated Citrus magazine. I know very little about citrus farming and even less about citrus diseases. But I can tell you that disease and insects have cost Florida farmers as much as any other crop we grow. I haven’t even mentioned states like California and Texas. The vast growing region that now grows citrus fruit. Now California is experiencing a big problem with the Asian Citrus Psyllid. You know that name “Asian” Citrus Psyllid? The disease that is imported. Not from Florida. Which leads to my point. Every major insect or disease that American farmers encounter came from some other country. Will there ever be a way to stop it? Don’t bet your money on it.

That’s Agri View for today, I’m Everett Griner.
