Everett Griner talks about grape production for consumption in today’s Agri View.
Most people consider the annual grape crop to be produced for wine making. If you are talking about California grapes, that is almost correct.
The grape industry is changing. In the first place, California is not the only place where grapes are grown. It is where most of them come from. Grape farming is on the increase in other states. They are not just for wine making. North Carolina is one of those areas. Arkansas is another.
There is a crop produced for food consumption. Things like grape jam, grape jellies, grape preserves. All breakfast foods, but on a growing list. By that, I mean consumption is growing. Then, there are those that are consumed as fresh fruit. That is one that has shown a lot of increase in the area where I live.
Be assured, most of the grapes, for any purpose, still come from California.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
