Everett Griner talks about fruit and vegetable labor problem in today’s Agri View. Everett discusses why the labor issue is putting more cost on the products for the consumer. You may have noticed that you are paying more for your fresh fruit and vegetables this year. You are very likely to pay more next year.
One of the problems that is causing this price increase is labor. Farmers are dealing with two problems. Both labor related.
In the first place, it is getting harder and harder to find the labor which is critical to growing these crops. Those who have the workforce, which is necessary, are having to pay more for that labor. Remember, fruit and vegetable farming is labor intense. You have got to have the necessary labor in order to grow these crops. It really doesn’t matter if it is migrant or local labor. It cost more to pay that labor.
That is why you are paying more. And, very likely will pay even more next year.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
