Agri View: Buying or Renting – Land Prices

Buying or Renting – Land Prices

If you are going to farm, you must have land. There are two ways. You can own it or rent it. Either way, it is costing more. Some farmers do both. Here’s the way it is in the southeast. First, is it irrigated or is it dry land.

For irrigated land, Florida farmers paid $60 dollars an acre more this year. In Georgia, it cost farmers $480 dollars more for irrigated land. Not quite as bad for dry land. Again, Florida paid an average of $50 dollars an acre more for dry land while Georgia farmers paid $170 dollars less. The price for irrigated land averaged about the same.

Now buy or renting, irrigated land cost the same whether buying or renting. It is likely to be the same way next year.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
