Everett Griner talks about how costly 2017 was to agriculture due to weather damage in today’s Agri View.
Well, first it was Irma, then a very unusual snowfall, that caused farmers in the southeast heavily. The major damage was to the fruit and vegetable crops. But, other sectors of agriculture were also impacted. Few people are aware that almost half of the vegetables they enjoy during the winter comes from Florida, Georgia, and Alabama.
Of course the unusual snowfall had little to do with Florida but, they are still counting up damages from Irma. That could run as high as $148 billion dollars in Florida Alone. According to one Florida source losses we have had like this before but, they go back a long way.
Here is the bottom line. Weather is a factor to be considered in every crop in every year. 2017 just happened to be a bad year, for southeastern farmers that is.
That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
