U.S. pistachio shipments reached 1.3 billion pounds during the 2025-26 crop year, marking a 19% increase from the previous year and nearly 24% above the five-year average.
The latest figures from the Administrative Committee for Pistachios show strong movement in both export and domestic markets. Export shipments totaled 951 million pounds, up 26.5% from the previous year, while domestic shipments reached 346.6 million pounds, a 2.6% increase.
Strong Export Demand Drives Pistachio Shipments
August was particularly strong for the U.S. pistachio industry. Shipments totaled 82.3 million pounds during the month, an increase of nearly 49% compared with August of the previous year.
Export shipments saw even stronger growth, jumping 83% year over year. The numbers highlight continued demand for U.S. pistachios in international markets as the industry moves through the 2025-26 crop year.
Crop receipts remained at approximately 1.59 billion pounds for the season. While shipment activity has been strong, overall inventory levels remain elevated compared with last year.
Adjusted inventory at the end of August was approximately 1.52 billion pounds, up 22.5% from a year earlier.
Marketable Inventory Declines
Estimated marketable inventory fell 26% from July to approximately 221 million pounds. Despite that monthly decline, the figure remained nearly 47% higher than the same time last year.
The combination of stronger shipments and elevated inventory levels will continue to be an important factor for the pistachio industry as the new crop moves forward. Export demand, in particular, remains a significant part of the market, accounting for the majority of shipments during the crop year.
The latest shipment figures provide an indication of continued movement for California and other U.S. pistachio producers as the industry works through available supplies.
