California’s orange season is winding down, with supplies of smaller Valencia oranges becoming increasingly limited as demand patterns shift.
Smaller Fruit Sees Stronger Demand
Most of the remaining California Valencias are expected to move into the juice market. However, demand for smaller oranges is increasing, tightening supplies of fruit that meets that preference.
At the same time, larger oranges are facing weaker demand and lower prices. The difference highlights changing market conditions as the California season approaches its close.
The shifting demand comes as growers and marketers work through the final portion of the Valencia crop. With fewer oranges remaining, availability and fruit size are becoming increasingly important factors for the market.
Florida Crop Gets Underway
In Florida, growers are just beginning to harvest the 2026 orange crop. Early expectations point to good external quality and solid sugar levels, although fruit sizes are expected to start out small.
The Florida harvest will provide another source of oranges as California supplies continue to decline. Crop quality, sizing and consumer demand will remain important factors as the season progresses.
