Conducted every five years by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS), the census, to be mailed at the end of this year, is a complete count of all U.S. farms, ranches, and those who operate them. USDA Sends National Agricultural Classification Survey Ahead of 2017 Census of Agriculture

In preparation for the 2017 Census of Agriculture, close to one million potential farmers and ranchers will receive the National Agricultural Classification Survey (NACS) this month to help the U.S. Department of Agriculture identify all active farms and ranches in the United States. The result of the NACS will determine who receives a census of agriculture questionnaire next December. Continue reading

Advisory Committee
The annual meeting of the Advisory Committee on Agriculture Statistics will take place in Washington, D.C. on Nov. 8-9, 2016. The agenda includes a discussion of the 2017 Census of Agriculture; County Estimates and Farm Structure Panel update; response rate research; big data overview; National Agricultural Statistics Service’s (NASS) communications plan; a new online Census response tool; and the Agricultural Resource Management Survey and Chemical Use programs.
