A new Farm Bill conservation program takes a market based approach to restore agriculture based wetland ecosystems.
Wetland Mitigation Banking Program Announced
The latest 2014 farmbill program announced by the Agriculture Department is designed to restore, create, or enhance wetland eco-systems. Agriculture Secretary talked with reporters last Thursday about the wetland mitigation banking program.
“It gives farmers the ability if they are interested in producing crops that has been a wetland, and the opportunity to convert that wetland but only to do so if they offset that loss of benefits with additional benefits either on their own farm, or in some other location.”
