It appears that Tyson Foods will be the next meat company moving into the imitation meat sector.  The company recently announced a series of plant-based and blended products that will become available to consumers under the new Raised & Rooted brand.  As part of the move into the alternative meat arena, Tyson will be offering a new pea-based chicken nugget product which will be launched later in the summer.

As the biggest American meat processor, Tyson Foods had been an early investor in Beyond Meat before selling its stake in the company earlier in the year.  With the introduction of the Raised & Rooted brand, and new plant-based products, Tyson will now be giving Beyond Meat some more competition in the market.  President and CEO of Tyson Foods, Noel White, said in a press release that “for us, this is about ‘and’ – not ‘or.’ We remain firmly committed to our growing traditional meat business and expect to be a market leader in alternative protein.”  Tyson also indicated the company’s intention to introduce additional alternative protein products through multiple customers and sales channels.
