The California Department of Water Resources conducted it’s first Sierra Nevada snow survey of this winter, and found the snowpack is at just 20 percent of average for the date. That is the lowest percentage ever recorded, although January 2012 was also at 20 percent.
The Department of Water Resources says its preparing for another dry year and is ready to streamline water transfers, as well as pull water from areas where it is abundant to give to critically dry areas.
Increasing concerns around the state, the National Weather Service is predicting a dry January for California.
