The Central Valley Summit on Alternatives to Open Burning of Agricultural Waste is scheduled for Tuesday, November 7, and Wednesday, November 8, at the Kearney Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Parlier.  The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District is bringing together growers, scientists and researchers for a two-day summit addressing clean alternatives to burning agricultural waste.

Central Valley SummitRegistration and breakfast will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the first day, immediately followed by a summit overview.  The day will consist of six sessions covering a variety of topics including the role of soil in addressing ag waste disposal needs and the possibility of reducing restrictions on burning ag waste.  Attendees will also hear information on the perspectives of Sacramento Valley, along with opportunities and challenges the agricultural industry may face employing alternatives to burning.

Breakfast will begin on the second day at 7:30 a.m. followed by three sessions comprised of multiple panel discussions.  The first series of discussions will focus on soil incorporation, power production, composting and other alternatives to dispose of waste.

The afternoon sessions will take place after lunch and will be centered on funding concerns and options for advancing alternatives to burning.  The day will conclude with a summary of the lessons discussed at the Central Valley Summit and what the next steps will be.

The summit is a free event with registration available through the Valley Air District website.
