How efficient is your irrigation system running? If you haven’t tested it lately, you may be losing crop. AgNet West’s Taylor Hillman has the story.

Possible Losses from Inefficient Irrigation

Distribution uniformity is the measurement used to see how efficient an irrigation system is. Different types of systems have different numbers, but experts are seeing a low trend in the field. Ag/H2O Founder and Owner Jim Anshutz says he is seeing under-efficient systems that cost the grower in energy use, water waste and yield loss. For example in nut crops, the formula for potential yield loss can be staggering. Anshutz says poor distribution uniformity isn’t always caused by a problem in a system and it could be a simple fix.
