Pest Management

An online course on managing invertebrate pests is available from the UC Statewide IPM Program. The course was developed for pest management professionals and growers. It consists of video presentations from Dr. Roger Baldwin, a University of California Cooperative Extension Specialist in Human-Wildlife Conflict Resolution. The course, An Integrated Approach to Managing Ground Squirrels and Pocket Gophers, is now available through UC IPM’s library of online training resources.

The course provides information on the description, biology, and ecology of ground squirrels and pocket gophers. It also features an overview of control options that include habitat modification, trapping, baiting, and fumigants. The material was originally presented as part of the UC Ag Experts Talk webinar series.

There is a registration fee for those interested in receiving the Continuing Education Units (CEU) and the certificate. UC IPM is offering a reduced price for registration through October 31, by entering a voucher code of SquirrelGopher50 during checkout. The course has been approved by the California Department of Pesticide Regulation for 1 CEU in the Other category and 0.5 units of IPM credit by Certified Crop Advisor. Courses that are purchased in 2021 will need to be completed with the certificate downloaded before December 31.
