Agriculture leaders are starting to see some new crops in Southern California due to water restrictions and a recently passed ordinance.
New Crops Trending in Southern California
San Diego County Farm Bureau says it is seeing some shifts when it comes to crops its producers are growing. The Bureau says its growers are forced to produce high-value crops because of the water situation in the state. The price of water in Southern California continues to lead the nation, and more restrictions on uninterrupted service are expected to be handed down this year.
San Diego County Farm Bureau Membership and Projects Manager Casey Anderson says although the initial cost of putting in a new crop can be high, water circumstances, plus the recent passage of a law involving wine grapes, has some growers making a change.
