The thirteen American cotton industry members, including Jake Sheely of Lemoore, recently completed the first of three training sessions as part of the National Cotton Council’s (NCC) Emerging Leaders Program.  The program is meant to provide future leaders of the American cotton industry with the necessary tools for success.

“During the first session they received professional development and communication skills,” said NCC Director of Member Services John Gibson, “such as presentation skills, business etiquette, instructions for engaging with the news media and utilizing social media tools and tactics.”

The group spent some time in St. Louis meeting with Bayer’s cotton team and also touring one of the company’s research centers. Gibson noted that the amount of information presented to the group can be overwhelming, but the participants in the current class are showing exceptional promise. “We have all seven segments of the industry represented and they were all very active in participating in the meetings and discussions,” Gibson said.
