National Food Bank Day

Hunger may be as close as your neighbor or your co-worker in the next cubical. But thanks to local food banks, help is available for some of the 42 million men, women and children who struggle with putting food on the table.

Today is National Food Bank Day. Recognized every first Friday of September so that anyone can help a neighbor, friend, co-worker, or child by making a donation or volunteering at a local food bank.

Aside from monetary donations, or volunteering your own time, it’s also an opportunity to reach out to a local farmer or gardener to see if there is a little something that can be harvested and donated from their crop or crops. You may also have something from your garden, even if you think it’s a small portion, remember that a little bit can often go a long way.

Check the needs list from your local food bank to see what fresh items they’re seeking. And use the hashtag #NationalFoodBankDay to share your story on social media.
