Governor Jerry Brown says it’s going to take weekly meetings by state officials to decide if a drought declaration is needed. Rather than actually taking action, the governor has directed state water leaders, the CDFA secretary, and the director of the state office of Emergency Services to get together once a week and discuss the water problems. This “task force” will review water allocations and the state’s preparedness, and coordinate with federal and local agencies. While they’re reviewing and coordinating, the state’s farmers and ranchers are preparing for the worst while hoping someone will take action.
