Cathy Isom tells us why we should forage for stinging nettles and where to find them. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Foraging for Stinging Nettles
Nettles may be considered noxious weeds, and quick to move in and take over the landscape. But they are edible and some say quite delicious.
Their medicinal qualities may grab your attention. Nettle infusions are said to increase energy levels and relieve anxiety. It’s also good for the kidneys, skin, hair and our hearts.
In the kitchen, Nettles can be used as a culinary herb, giving soups that added nutritional pop.
Wear proper protection such as thick gloves when you find them. Clip only the top three pairs of leaves at the end of the plant to take home. And once in the kitchen, use tongues to handle them safely for culinary preparation.
