FDA Extends Milk Labeling Comment Period

Dan Dairy & Livestock

fdaThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has once again extended the deadline to submit comments on labeling requirements for plant-based beverages. Back in July FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced that the agency would be renewing efforts to enforce labeling standards when it comes to non-dairy, milk alternatives. The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) has applauded the FDA’s decision to push the comment period to January 25, 2019.

NMPF has released a brief video presentation explaining the importance of correct labeling standards and how individuals can provide feedback to the FDA. “We have a unique opportunity here in the coming weeks to weigh in with the FDA about how it needs to be taking seriously the mislabeling of these imitation dairy foods,” said NMPF Senior Vice President of Member Services and Strategic Initiatives, Chris Galen.

This video features NMPF’s Chris Galen and Alan Bjerga explaining how you can write and submit comments to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration regarding its open docket on fake-milk labeling. The deadline to do so is Jan. 25, 2019.
