High school students get chance to be agriculture reporters for the day

AgNet West and Clovis Grower Matt Efird worked with the FARMS Leadership program to show Central Valley students how agriculture radio journalism works.

Students from Clovis East, Madera South, Central West and others make up the Fresno section of the FARMS Leadership program. The students watched AgNet West’s Taylor Hillman interview Central Valley Grower Matt Efird at the Fresno Farm Bureau. Efird talked about the challenges they face in farming which include water quality and efficiency. AgNet West’s Sabrina Hill talked to the students about agriculture journalism and the differences between radio and print mediums.

The FARMS Leadership Program is a project under the Center for Land Based Learning and Fresno Program Coordinator Claudia Sersland split the students into groups and gave them sections of the interview to write a radio report based on Efird’s comments.

Here is what they produced.
