A lot can happen when the community comes together. Cathy Isom tells us about the Colorado elementary school going the extra mile to make students get a healthy lunch. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.
Healthy food in school-provided lunches has long been a topic of concern for parents at one elementary school in Arvada, Colorado. That’s why community leaders and parents of students at Foster Elementary decided to step up and repair the garden that has recently fallen into a state of disrepair.
School leaders and the community have since come together, along with the help of grants and donations from local businesses, to get the garden back up and running. Some of the improvements include ADA compliant beds, wider walkways for handicap accessibility and implementing a new irrigation system. Next, they hope to build a fence around the garden to help deter vandalism.
