The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) has selected 33 organizations to receive a total of $2.1 million in grant funding, for Climate Smart Agriculture Technical Assistance awards.  The recipients of the funding support will provide important technical assistance to the applicants and awardees of CDFA’s Alternative Manure Management Program as well as the Healthy Soils Program.

The type of assistance that is provided includes helping farmers with the application process such as developing a project design, estimating the benefits of proposals and submitting applications.   After projects are awarded, technical assistance providers will continue to work with farmers to implement the projects and help with meeting the reporting requirements.

CDFA devotes at least five percent of the funding for the Climate Smart Agriculture Programs to be used for technical assistance grants through a competitive request for proposals.  Technical assistance efforts are prioritized for farms that are smaller than 500 acres, with at least a quarter of the funding assistance provided to Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers.
