The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) is developing Phase II (Research) of its new Dairy Digester Research and Development Program, authorized by the Budget Act of 2014.

CDFA was appropriated $12 million from the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund to provide financial assistance for the installation of dairy digesters that will result in reduced greenhouse gas (methane) emissions. Approximately $11 million is dedicated to the installation of digesters, and an estimated $500,000 will be made available for competitive grants for research and demonstration projects to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; facilitate improved understanding of the scientific and technical aspects of dairy digesters; and provide information about economic feasibility, widespread implementation and environmental benefits.

A public stakeholder meeting is scheduled to explain Phase II of the program and receive comments and suggestions on the proposed framework and research priorities. The Department is striving to develop a program that will fund practical and industry-relevant research leading to greenhouse gas reductions via dairy digesters. Please visit CDFA’s dairy digester website, www.cdfa.ca.gov/go/dd for more information. Interested parties may submit comments to grants@cdfa.ca.gov beginning March 4, at 12:00 p.m. until March 18, at 5:00 p.m.. The meeting is scheduled as follows:

Wednesday, March 4, 2015, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
