Still Time to Register for California Avocado Society’s Annual Meeting

The California Avocado Society’s Annual Meeting started on Friday, October 20th, and goes through Saturday, October 21st in Ventura.  The event features a field tour and evening reception on Friday, followed by a day of speakers on Saturday.

California Avocado Society's Annual MeetingCheck-in for the field tours will begin at Noon on Friday at the Hansen Agricultural Center.  Attendees will then be provided with directions to the four different tour locations. The Calavo Avocado Ripening Facility will be exhibiting ripening and management techniques.  Fruit Growers Laboratories will be displaying water, leaf, soil and pathology analysis technologies.  Brokaw Orchard will feature management changes over time and Dominguez Orchard will highlight high-density management and pruning methods.

The President’s BBQ Reception will begin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Limoneira Ranch Headquarters in Santa Paula.  The evening will afford attendees an opportunity to network and share industry information.

Registration will open at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, for the 102nd Annual Meeting at Four Points by Sheraton Ventura Harbor Resort.  A continental breakfast will also be provided, along with time to examine sponsor displays before President of the California Avocado Society Mike Nuňez, opens the event by welcoming attendees at 8:30 a.m.

Multiple industry experts will be speaking on a variety of topics including cryopreservation, remote sensing technologies, along with soil and plant analysis.  UCR Director of Ag Operations and Cooperative Extension Subtropical Specialist Dr. Peggy Mauk is going to be providing an update on current rootstock trials.  The Award of Honor along with the Oliver Atkins Award will also be presented during the meeting.
