Food Waste

Well, latest figures show seven-hundred ninety-five million people do not get enough to eat. It also shows that most of them can be well fed with food that is wasted. As a good example, in the United States alone we throw out twenty-nine million dollars’ worth of edible food every year. One group which is studying the issue says that about half of that waste is due to what is called “The Dating Game”. The date on the label. They are misunderstood. For example, Sell by, or Use by, is a date intended to give the consumers a time when a product is at its best flavor. It does not mean the product should be destroyed. So, how would a consumer know when it is time to dispose of an unused portion of food? Well, one way is to recycle it. That could reduce waste by as much as half. Would that reduce the number of underfed people, you suppose?

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner.
