Agri View: Carrot Production

Dan Agri View, Vegetables

carrotEverett Griner talks about carrot production in today’s Agri View. Everett also may surprise you with the state that produces the most carrots.

Now whether it is a small carrot the size of your finger or one 8 to 10 inches long, it is still one of the most consumed vegetables. But, although most of the refrigerators hold this long lasting vegetable, few people are interested in its background.

Well I found something that interested me. What state grows the most carrots? No…it is Georgia. In fact one commercial farm operation in Georgia is the biggest grower in the world. The one of the organization that grows over 40,000 acres of carrots every year. Did you hear that? I don’t know how many tons they grow. But I know it is enough to generate many jobs. Both seasonal and full time. No, this 40,000 acres is not all in Georgia, but, that is a lot of anything for one producer to grow. Finger size, or a foot long.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
