Agri View: Aquifers Water Dwindling

Dan Agri View, Water

aquifersEverett Griner talks about the dwindling water levels of our underground aquifers in today’s Agri View.

As long as I can remember all a farmer had to to irrigate his crops was drill a well. There has always been an adequate supply of water in those various aquifers in the various regions of the country.

But we are finding out that there is a dwindling supply of water in some of those aquifers. This is not to imply that they are running dry. But geologist now know for a fact that water levels are not a voluminous as they once were. Remember, it is not just farmers who depend on these underground sources of fresh water. Uncounted rural homes beyond the reach of industrial water systems tap the same source for their fresh water.

It is another case of what we thought would never happen, very well could happen. Only time will tell. I hope not.

That’s Agri View for today. I’m Everett Griner…
