Potential regulation for a well-known nematicide could be aggressive. There have been ongoing discussions about possible management for 1,3-Dichloropropene (1,3-D). Western Ag Processors Associations Director of Government Affairs Jody Devaurs said the Department of Pesticide Regulations is discussing shorter exposure to the product, and regulatory requirements could be extreme.

“1,3-D has had some conversations around it regarding long-term exposure for a while; however, this set of regulations coming from DPR is looking specifically at acute exposure,” Devaurs said. “One of the worst-case scenarios is buffer zones up to 2,000 feet and up to six and a half days. That is way out of the norm for what is the practice right now.”
