We begin our series on Monterey County agriculture with an overview of the diverse area. Sabrina Hill reports.


I had the opportunity to sit down with Monterey County Ag Commissioner Eric Lauritzen and discuss the unique qualities of agriculture in his county. He pointed out not only are the crops diverse, but also valuable. He says thevalue is much higher than other areas around the nation. Lauritzen says it does come with a price – all the issues surrounding agriculture such as water quality and pesticide use.
