Superfoods Grown in Your Home Garden

Dan This Land of Ours, Vegetables

superfoodsIn planning your garden, Cathy Isom tells us about some superfoods you can grow at home. That’s coming up on This Land of Ours.

Super foods have supreme nutritive value, but also, if grown in the garden, they can be eaten fresh and at the height of their power. Not only good for our bodies, but much better for the planet.

Keep these super foods in mind when planning or adding on to this year’s garden.

For dark green, try kale, chard, arugula, mustard greens, bok choy, collards, spinach, lettuces or beets. What garden would be complete without tomatoes. An absolute must. Squashes/Pumpkins and Broccoli. Sweet potatoes, too. Easy to grow, they like heat, and store well over the winter. Apples – another excellent superfood. Though it could take a couple of years to grow, one tree has the potential to supply more apples than a typical person will eat in a year. For super herbs and spices, garlic, ginger and turmeric are your best bets.
