USDA economist Ricky Volpe says fresh fruit and vegetable prices have done a somewhat unexpected major course correction downward this year.

Volpe says that the very small amount of food price inflation is good news on several fronts. He says not only does it mean better prices for the consumer, but he says it also shows that the US food supply is becoming better equipped to handle things like weather and drought problems without a major food price inflation.
